Biography
“…Music is a way of making life bearable…a beautiful refuge in a world otherwise ugly and hostile to human happiness…or it is, in itself, a powerful affirmation of life, in all its joy and sorrow…without music, life would be an error…”
- Nietzsche

There ain’t much our boy Devo Brown remembers from his degree in Sociology at McMaster University, but these few delicate words by Nietzsche still echoes profoundly in his ears each and every time he throws down a track. From DJ/MC-ing in some of the hottest clubs in the T-Dot to laying out ’sick-wicked-nasty’ sets across the airwaves, there is nothing more apparent than Devo’s love for music. It is thus, this affection for music that defines his passion, and from this passion derives the platform in which he uses to bring his ‘beautiful refuge’ to the world. In the words of Devo Brown himself: “…at the end of the day, all I wanna do is just make people smile…!”
Born in Halifax but raised in the ‘Jax’ (as he affectionately calls is hometown Ajax), Devo’s easygoing and laidback character is directly attributed to his outlook on life, “…everything is about balance…” as he says with a wink and a smile, “…you gotta be at peace with yourself first, if you wanna conquer the world…” And the world seems to be within his grasp these days. After a lengthy odyssey within the radio industry, which saw him polish his skills in communities like Hamilton (Energy FM), Barrie (Energy FM), Oshawa (Energy FM) and Cobourg (Star 93.3), our boy Devo Brown now hosts one of the top rated urban radio shows in the country. Devo’s smooth flowing velvet sound on Toronto’s premiere Hip-Hop and R&B station - FLOW 93.5, is adored by all demographics alike. His ability to strike-a-cord with people in all walks of life and be very comfortable with any type of crowd or situation, naturally makes him one of the most ‘real’ personalities to hold a mic.
Of course, Devo attributes all his success to his family and friends for keeping his soul grounded and mind focused. “…I wouldn’t be where I am today without their support…” as he shrugs his shoulders modestly, “…I’m just a regular guy who is blessed to be doing with what I do…” Still, as humble as he is, its no secret to anybody that in order to make it in this cutthroat industry, you got to have a little thing called ’skillz’ to go with that support and luck. But with the Hindu characters of ‘loyalty’ and ’sincerity’ tattooed to his body, there is no question in what type of values and beliefs our boy Devo Brown carries. Amidst his hectic schedule, Devo volunteers his spare time to many socially driven functions and charity events in the city. His life long love of basketball has led him to many memorable coaching experiences with local area schools and YMCAs. Furthermore, he enjoys chilling out and just kicking back with all his boys - usually over a mean game of dominos, and of course, his love for music always has his ears on the newest and hottest tracks coming up the charts.
In the immediate future, Devo’s main objective is to continue honing his skills within the trade, “…there’s just so much more I gotta learn, there’s always something else to pick-up on, you can never become content with what you’re doing…” He further expects to expand his focus and attention onto other sectors within the entertainment industry, as well as devoting more time in helping others break into the business. When asked what’s one thing he would change or do differently tomorrow if he had a choice, our boy Devo Brown promptly answers with a big smile and a laugh “…nothing much dude, to quote Trey Songz, I started in this business with a dollar and a dream….now I’m living that dream, I wouldn’t mind making a few more dollars…but as for tomorrow?” Devo gives a comforting smile “…tomorrow I’m going to the beach…” ~ END
